One of my favourite pieces from the new collection.
As with many of my pieces, this pair of earrings started when I found this pair of brightly coloured garnets and knew they would create the most perfect window for two completely unique symbols.
My decision to use a crab and lobster came from both the unique orange-red tone of these beautiful naturally occurring garnets and also because they make a dynamic pair.
In terms of symbolism, crabs are seen as symbolising resilience because they are able to live both in water and on land, and lobsters are often seen as symbols of commitment and eternal love because they are said to mate for life. So although very similar in terms of relative likeness, these crustaceans convey different characteristics, both of which are important reminders for everyday life and relationships.
This pair is intentionally mismatched to express the differences in either symbol.
(And yes, before you say it, the crab has definitely found it’s lobster!)
